Calling all baddies to the floor! If you’re looking for some easy tips to get baddie lips from the comfort of your own home, then this guide is for you.
With the right products and a few tricks up your sleeve, you can get the lip look you’ve always longed for.
What Are Baddie Lips?
Before we get into how you can achieve baddie lips, we have to answer the important question of what they are in the first place. Baddie lips is another name for plump, full-looking lips that have been all the rage recently.
Although your mind might immediately go to more dramatic makeup looks, you can play with the shades in your baddie lip look to make it more natural and subtle for a quick grocery run or more chic and daring for date night.
How Can You Get Baddie Lips at Home?
Now that you know what baddie lips are, it’s time to dive into how you can achieve this plump, full look. By following our seven steps, you’ll have red-carpet-ready lips in no time (even if your day involves more errands than award shows)!
1. Prep Your Lips (Exfoliate and Hydrate)
Before you even think about lipsticks and lip glosses, you have to prep your lips. Just like you wash, exfoliate, and moisturize your face before applying foundation, you need to give your lips the same TLC.
Start by exfoliating your lips. We recommend using a lip scrub, like the Bubble Buff Lip Scrub, to remove any makeup residue that might be left on your lips and gently exfoliate them. If you don’t have a lip scrub on hand, you can still do this step! Take a clean wash cloth and wet it slightly with warm water.
Make sure the water isn’t too hot, or it may damage your lips. Gently rub circles with the washcloth on your lips to remove any dry skin or leftover makeup.
Once you’re done with your scrub and exfoliation, it’s time to hydrate your lips. Apply our Nourishing Lip Balm to your lips, and give it a few minutes to sink in before you move on to the next step.
2. Plan Your Look
While your lips absorb the lip balm, take a minute to plan out your lip look and gather all the products you’ll need. To do the full baddie lips look, you’ll need contour, lip liner, lip gloss, lipstick, and highlighter.
If you’re unsure of what color products to use to make your lips look bigger, keep in mind that nude shades a few shades darker than your skin tone will generally make your lips look the biggest. That said, you can get the signature baddie plump look with pretty much any shade, so don’t limit yourself to a neutral palette if you’re in the mood for something more colorful!
3. First Things First… Contour!
This might be a first for some people, but before you pull out your lip products, you want to grab your contour. Although you might associate contouring just with your cheekbones, jaw, and forehead, you can actually contour your lips to make them look bigger.
Place a little bit of your favorite contour under your bottom lip to help enhance the appearance of fullness that you’re going for. You’ll just need a dot or dab of your favorite contour here to achieve the shadow that will help your lips look bigger.
4. Line and Overline Your Lips
Once your contour is nicely blended, it’s time to move on to lip liner. Try to find a lip liner that matches the shade of lipstick you’ll use later so that the effect is as flattering as possible. To get the most out of your lip liner, you can use our Bold Booster Plumping Lip Liner, which uses Heat + Ice Technology to give your lips an extra boost.
With your lip liner, you want to start by drawing an “X” on your Cupid’s bow. This will help ensure that your look is as symmetrical as possible. Given that you’re going for the fullest lip look possible, you’ll want to trace slightly outside your natural lip line as you go from the tip of the “X” down to the corners of your lips.
Once you’re about three-quarters of the way down your lip line, gently pull the liner in so that it’s back on your natural lip line. Doing so will help your lips look as full as possible without giving them an exaggerated, fake vibe. Do the same along your bottom lip line.
From here, you have two choices. For a less dramatic look, you can use your finger or a small brush to blend the liner in towards the center of your lips. If you want to make sure your lip look doesn’t budge all day long, you can fill your lips in entirely with liner for a more bold, dramatic effect.
5. Apply Your Lipstick Shade of Choice
When it comes to lipstick and baddie lips, the best way to get the fullest-looking lips is to take a page out of the ‘90s makeup book and use two different shades. Look for two different lipstick colors that are in the same family but a few shades apart. Keep in mind that the darker shade should match your lip liner!
With the darker lipstick shade, trace the outline of your lips. Then, use a brush to gently pull the lipstick toward the center of your lips. This will give the overall look a more blended, natural feel. Once you’re satisfied with the darker shade, use a clean brush to apply the lighter shade to the middle of your lips and blend the two colors together.
6. Plump Your Lips Up With Gloss
One of the easiest ways to get the baddie lip look is to use a lip-plumping gloss. If you want a pigmented product that will plump your lips up and add a bit of color, try out our Bold Booster Lip Plumper.
Available in a wide variety of shades, this product is easy to apply and will plump your lips up while also hydrating them with hyaluronic acid and jojoba oil so that they’re as moisturized as they are glossy.
For a more subtle approach to fuller-looking lips, try the Hot Goss Plumping Lip Gloss. This lip gloss will give your lips a warm, tingly sensation that leaves them looking fuller than ever before.
7. Highlight Your Cupid’s Bow
With your liner, lipstick, and lip gloss in place, you’re ready for the final step. It’s time to highlight your Cupid’s bow. Your Cupid’s bow is the slight dip in your top lip and, much like contouring your lower lip, highlighting this spot can make your lips look fuller and is like the cherry on top of the baddie lips look.
Take your favorite highlighter and apply a little just above the dip of your Cupid’s bow. If you don’t have a pronounced Cupid’s bow, highlight just above the center of your top lip.
You want to make sure to apply the highlighter on the skin just above your lips rather than on the lipstick or lip liner. We recommend our Glow Bloom Liquid Highlighter for this step because it’s so easy to blend, and with it, you don’t run the risk of getting any powder on your lips.
How Are Baddie Lips Different Than Glass Lips?
Baddie lips are often confused with another hot trend for lip makeup: glass lips. Although they’re similar, there are a few crucial differences. While the baddie lip look is focused on increasing the volume and perceived size of your lips, glass lips are defined by the wet appearance they give your lips.
When glass lips are done right, it should almost look like your lips are coated in a glistening layer of shimmery oil. Baddie lips, on the other hand, are defined by the shape and fullness they give to your pout. That said, you can easily combine these two styles to get the most glossy, plump-looking lips imaginable.
What Color Lipstick Will Make Your Lips Look the Fullest?
You’re officially a baddie lip pro which means it’s time to try this look at home. This might leave you wondering how you can choose the best shade for your lip look. One rule of thumb to consider is that nude and neutral tones tend to make the lips look bigger.
Another trick to keep in mind when it comes to choosing the shades for your baddie lip look is that glossy lipsticks and lip glosses will always make your lips look bigger than a matte shade. Also, don’t forget to consider your undertones when you’re choosing your shades.
If you have warmer undertones, peach-colored, golden brown, and orangey-brown shades tend to look amazing. For people with cooler undertones, pinkish nudes, rose-colored, and mauve products may be the most flattering.
