Easy Makeup Tutorial for Everyday Glam

Ready to elevate your everyday look without spending hours in front of the mirror? You’ve come to the right place.

We’ll walk you through all the products and steps you need to nail a casual, pretty look for everyday glam.

1. Prepping Your Skin

We’ll let you in on a little secret about the best makeup looks: It’s all in the prep work.

Your skin is the canvas, and moisturizer and primer form the background that allows your best features to shine. So before you even begin with foundation or eyeshadow, start off with a generous application of your favorite moisturizer.

Once your skin is moisturized and hydrated, grab some primer and pat a few pumps all over your face, including your eyelids (unless you have a separate eyeshadow primer, in which case you’d use that instead). We recommend our Good Grip Hydrating Primer, which is oil and silicone-free (bye-bye, acne) and has a refreshing gel texture. We even have a new, acne-safe version of this product with blueberry extract, witch hazel, and AHA for extra oil control.

Let the primer sink into your skin before going in with any other products, and you’re set — say hello to grip that lasts all day long.

2. Nailing an Effortless Glow

The key to everyday glam is not going overboard with your coverage. So rather than going full foundation, we recommend using a tinted sunscreen or correcting blemishes with a high-quality concealer.

To cover up undereye circles, try using our Bright Eyes Cooling Concealer. The formula comes in an innovative new package with a metal tip to cool and soothe that sensitive under-eye area, and the concealer itself is formulated with olive-sourced squalane (AKA, vegan squalane) for maximum hydration.

If you need to cover up blemishes rather than dark circles, try our Like Magic 12HR Full Coverage Concealer. The matte finish is super buildable, making it easy to achieve just the right amount of coverage without overdoing it. To nail that subtle, effortlessly clear-complexioned look, first, dab a blot of concealer onto your wrist or the back of your hand.

Next, use a small, densely packed makeup brush to transfer the product from your hand to the blemish in question. Apply it by gently dotting it onto your skin so that the concealer builds up to your ideal level of coverage.

Finally, give yourself a subtle glow with some light highlighting. We like our Glow Bloom Liquid Highlighter in the shade “Bellini Brunch” for a soft, blendable flush that sinks into your skin and finishes naturally.

Starting with a minimal amount of product, apply to your cheekbones, the bridge of your nose, and your cupid’s bow, blending out with either your fingertip or a fluffy blending brush. Build up more coverage as desired.

And voila — you’ve created gorgeous, glowing skin that hardly looks like you’re wearing makeup at all, which is what the everyday glam look is all about!

3. It’s All in the Eyes

While going full cut-crease and winged eyeliner is fun, save that for a day when you aren’t shooting for a casual, everyday look. Today, we’re keeping it simple: Fluffy, flattering brows, mascara, and just a touch of sparkle in the inner corner of your eyes.

Start off by grabbing a high-quality eyebrow pencil and a spoolie brush. (Or you can grab both with our two-in-one Better Brows Long Lasting Eyebrow Pencil.) Using the spoolie brush, comb your brows straight up until they’re fluffed out at maximum volume.

Then, using your eyebrow pencil, lightly fill in any bare spots to create an even and consistent brow shape. Use a finger or the tip of the spoolie brush to comb over the top of your brow (or leave it fluffed out to recreate the viral “soap brows” look).

Next, take a sturdy eyelash curler and curl those lashes. The key to the curler is getting it as close to your eyelid as possible without pinching your skin and holding it there for at least 10 seconds. Then, grab your favorite volumizing mascara and swipe on a few coats.

To get maximum volume with minimal mess, try holding the mascara wand at the base of your eyelashes (close to your eyelid) and slowly wiggling it up your eyelashes. It may take a few tries to master this technique, but it’s a guaranteed way to keep your eyelashes separate and therefore prevent them from clumping.

Finally, round out your everyday glam with a dot of highlighter in the inner corner of your eye. We like a warm golden shade for this, such as shade “Solar Flare” from our Chroma-Glow Bloom Liquid Highlighter.

To apply the perfect amount, first dot the product onto the back of your hand. Then, use a fingertip to transfer the highlighter from your hand to the inner corner. Be sure to start with less product than you think you need — it’s easier to build up the glow than overdo it and have to remove product.

If you’re a beginner and aren’t sure which tools to use, your best option is to follow the instructions or description on the product. For example, our Skin Magnet Foundation Brush is super useful for applying and blending foundation, and wouldn’t be very useful for any other type of product.

Our Color Bloom Liquid Blush Brush is best for applying blush. Brushes, sponges, and other tools almost always come labeled, so you know which step to use them for, and know what tools you need for each step of your makeup routine.

4. Bonus Steps

When it comes to a look that you can wear every day, keeping things casual is key. In other words: The fewer steps, the better.

However, for those days when you just need a little extra sparkle without doing a full-blown beat, these extra steps are going to be your new best friend.

A Touch of Eyeshadow

The trick to eyeshadow that flatters without being too noticeable is to choose the right shade for your eye color. You want something neutral with just a hint of sparkle that complements your eyes.

Use the following guide to choose the best eyeshadow for your eye color:

  • Brown eyes: Look for a warm copper, such as shade “After Six” from our best-selling Nude Beginnings palette. The contrast between the brown of your eyes and the lighter copper-toned eyeshadow will really make your eyes pop.
  • Hazel eyes: Either gold or silver will bring out the green in your eyes. We recommend cool-toned “Gladiator” from our When in Rome palette.
  • Green eyes: Try smudging on some sparkly silver, such as shade “In My Orbit” from the Deep Feelings palette. Just a tiny bit of this shade will emphasize your beautiful eye color and let your natural features pop.
  • Blue eyes: Brown is opposite blue on the color wheel, so a soft brown (try “Nutty Crunch Surprise” from our Willy Wonka palette) will really bring out your eyes.

Whichever shade you choose, use a round fluffy brush to evenly distribute your eyeshadow, blending it out into your eyelid crease. Unlike a full makeup look, we’re not trying to create depth here — just give your eyes a little bit more oomph.

Once you’ve thoroughly buffed out your eyeshadow, use a good quality setting spray to set the whole look in place, and you’re good to go!

A Pretty Blush

Recreating a gorgeous flush (and making it stay all day) is as easy as grabbing some liquid blush and setting spray.

We like liquid blush because it’s super buildable and tends to look more dewy than powder blushes — our Color Bloom Liquid Blush, for example, is a great option. It comes with a sponge applicator, a gel-like formula that sinks right into your skin, and is available in 15 different shades, so you know there’s one for you.

Simply dot a bit of blush onto the tops of your cheekbones and use a blush brush or your finger to blend it out into your skin. Start slow — with liquid blush, less tends to be more. Once the blush has dried, spritz it with some setting spray, and you’re good to go.
